Introduction
It seems as though ever since the creation of PDAs
the one horror story that seems to come up in
conversation is the risk of dropping your PDA or even
scratching your PDA screen surface. With several
different options available for users concerned with
whether they may drop the device or scratch it, you have
a wide variety of options from which to choose from. If
you know that you're clumsy and might drop it
occassionally, you might want to look at a case to
protect your PDA, or for those who know that they may
accidentally mistaken that standard ballpoint pen for a
stylus, then you might want to look at screen protectors
such as the G2 PDA Screen Protector.
What's in the Box?
Considering that these are screen protectors, you
cannot ask much from what would come in the packaging.
Inside the package came two types of G2 screen
protectors, one for a Palm V and one for a Compaq iPaq.
For our purposes today, we'll look at the widely popular
iPaq that continues to be on track with the popularity
of Palm. Also in the packaging came a small cloth to
clean your PDA and the screen protector with.
Installation
After opening up the pack labelled iPaq I
proceeded to follow through the instruction guide as
given with the G2 and started to clean my iPaq of any
dust, guck and any other dust bunnies that may have
opened up shop on my iPaq since its last
use.
Once all the dust and marks were removed I
read that the screen protector needed to be handled with
care. When I read this I knew that I would easily get my
thumb print somewhere on the G2 screen protector, and
sure enough I did. I had to go through and wipe the
screen protector off and then started to apply the G2 to
my iPaq. I've never been a fan of screen protectors to
be honest due to the fact that they seem so flimsy and
usually look as though Saran wrap has been wrapped on
the PDA to protect it from the elements! In the case of
the G2 it looked very stable but after realizing that I
had 2 protectors to which to use for the iPaq I became
wary. Sure enough after trying to install the first G2
screen protector I realized that it was a candidate for
the garbage can as I had seared the top right hand
corner of one of the G2 protectors. When it mentioned
that I had to handle the G2 with care, I didn't think it
meant that the protector itself was fairly fragile for
installing.
Thankfully I had a second chance at getting the
protector installed on my iPaq. After several tries I
was able to finally install the protector. One issue
that I was concerned about was having 'air bubbles'
after the G2 screen protector had been applied. In my
case I had to de-install the protector and then re-apply
it carefully so that I wouldn't get any bubbles. This
took the most amount of time, so if you're hoping for a
quick install of the G2, look elsewhere as it could take
you some time to get it just right.
